KENT ARTIST JAMES KNOWLES RETURNS TO THE UK TO EXHIBIT IN GUILDFORD
James Knowles has been traveling and painting for the last 30 years. His oil painting works range from large scale photorealistic florals, to his more recent surreal and abstract canvases. Galleries in Canada, the USA, Mexico, Australia, Spain and soon France all show James’s works, pieces that often draw from his experiences in these different locations.
“It is perhaps the floral pieces that best reflect my early years in the UK”, says James, “growing up in the county of Kent, the so called ‘garden of England’ had an influence on me for sure”.
James studied at the art college in Rochester, Kent. “I think that all humans are creative beings, it’s just that some of us spend all our time being creative. I enjoyed my time at college, however, I really learnt my craft and got my experience in the school of life. It’s a big thrill for me to be exhibiting in the UK after such a long time away. As I age, I am getting more aware of the roots tugging at my feet!”
James suggests that this exhibition “In Retrospect” will be about celebrating his last 30 years of painting. “A little bit of everything that will appeal to a wide range of people”. Consisting of mostly high quality reproductions of James original paintings, the show will take you on a vibrant journey of colour and style.
This exhibition ran from Saturday 18th October until Saturday 1st November. You were able to meet the artist there on Saturday 25th October, and catch him working right there in the studio. |
